expert cutting days - successful for 5th consecutive year

Experience cutting first hand - according to this motto, for what is meanwhile the 5th consecutive event of its kind, the expert cutting days took place at expert systemtechnik in Bielefeld on 20 and 21 March 2019. This event hosted by the professionals for cutting technologies has meanwhile become a platform for expanding knowledge and sharing experiences on current topics concerning the cutting of leather, textiles and technical materials such as foam, technical textiles, plastic and composites.

“This year, once again, expert had to create a waiting list. There was a lot of demand for the event”, says Sebastian Bruder, Managing Director for HR, Sales and Marketing. With well over 100 registrations from almost 70 companies within the automotive and upholstered furniture industry located in more than 10 countries, this year’s expert cutting days were, yet again, a very popular event. Feedback from guests, representing companies such as BMW, Leister, ECCO, Brokamp, Dethleffs, Hinzsch, 3C Holding and Reposa, also confirmed this. "The event included really interesting presentations. There was a great opportunity to network at this wonderful event” and “The expert cutting days can also be described as a networking event. It is the ideal place to get to know new partners, new areas of application, new ideas." Please keep up the good work!”. These were just some of the comments we received about the event, confirming that - when it comes to innovation - expert is one step ahead.

But expert also continues to rely on what has proved successful in the past: the event, therefore, is divided into two topic days “cutting leather” and “cutting technical materials”. And expert also stuck with the well-established event format: Presentations by internal experts and external speakers as well as live demonstrations provided information about the state-of-the-art developments in which expert has a significant say in what is happening on the market.

Manuel Bruder, Managing Director for Research and Development, provided the best evidence of this with the latest findings on the topic of leather identification, the magnet of this year’s expert cutting days. “We have been researching this complex technical system for almost eight years and have learnt a lot from the setbacks and technical challenges. The precedence system has now been developed and is ready for use. The scan expert automatic+ achieves a higher speed in recognition of imperfections than manual processing - with an accuracy rate of up to 90% (depending on the imperfection tolerance). Artificial intelligence is a brand new approach in this industry for sustainable saving of valuable raw materials and optimal use of resources. The scan expert automatic+ is now available.”

expert is also setting standards in other ways as well: In another presentation Sebastian Ricke, software developer, demonstrated “how a postman helps when cutting” and showed guests, on the basis of the mathematical metaphor of the postman problem, how cutting path optimisation works at expert. Subsequently, guests were shown in live demonstrations on the waterjet cutting machines how cutting is much quicker and easier for leather and also technical materials.

The greatest strength of expert, to find an individual solution to every cutting problem, was shown on the second day in a presentation on modular mechanical engineering which discussed customer-specific automated solutions. During the breaks it was possible to position digital cutting patterns on real material using a HoloLens.

expert cutting days are intended to function as a networking event - also in future. For Sebastian Bruder the exchange amongst guests is particularly important. The breaks provided experts and users of the automotive and upholstered furniture industry as well as processors of technical materials the opportunity to offer mutual support to each other concerning current challenges and problem solving. This networking was also rounded off with the two evening events in LENKWERK Bielefeld, a unique location for fans of vintage and modern classic cars.

We think in cutting solutions.
